General Description of Holdings

Eldridge Sisters

The Archives photograph holdings are comprised of more than one million images from private-sector and public-sector records. These photographs depict a wide range of subjects relating to Vancouver 's history and culture from the 1860s to the 1980s. They bring to life the social, cultural and economic realities of the city's past, as well as the everyday activities of generations of its citizens.

Approximately 80,000 images described at the item level are available for public reference in the Archives' Reference Room. Roughly 59,000 item-level descriptions are available in the database and of these, about 49,000 have scanned images linked to the description.

Photographic Reference Services

Card catalogues, finding aids and reference prints are available to researchers in the reading room.

Research projects and requests for information may be undertaken by a personal visit or by telephone and written request. While every effort is made by Archives staff to respond to enquiries, we cannot undertake extensive research on a patron's behalf.
