In recent years the Archives has used "local areas" as terms in a
variety of indexes. For local area names and boundaries see the Vancouver
Local Areas map on the microfilm cabinet. In older indexes (pamphlets, J.S.
Matthews' collections, etc.) try former or colloquial neighbourhood terms as well.

about historic neighbourhoods, neighbourhood planning processes,
neighbourhood institutions, etc.
In the Subject Catalogue printout, see local area headings, and the

These primary sources often require extensive research, but contain
a great deal of additional information about Vancouver generally,
and about large and small segments of the city.
City Records
For an overview of the City series see the contents lists in
the blue inventory binders. Series which contain local area subject files include:
Operational Files (series 62, Clerk's), 1975-1984.
See the section "Location Files" for files which document Council
business and departmental activities in relation to neighbourhoods.
General Correspondence (series 178, Social Planning), 1964-1985.
Documented are neighbourhood improvement programs, local area planning
activities, and other involvement with neighbourhoods.
Maps, Plans and Drawings (series 445, Planning), 1925-1989.
Contains microfiche on Hastings-Sunrise, Kensington-Cedar Cottage,
Kerrisdale, Killarney, Kitsilano, Marpole, Mount Pleasant, Oakridge,
Renfrew-Collingwood, Riley Park, Shaughneessy, South Cambie, Sunset,
Victoria-Fraserview, and West End.
