About KVS
Keep Vancouver Spectacular was established in 1996 when the City of Vancouver teamed with community partners and volunteers to run a city-wide cleanup. In that first year, more than 400 commercial and residential blocks participated and 90 tonnes of garbage were collected by 1,500 volunteers.
Highlights from the 2011 campaign
- 14,000 students from 71 schools helped make their neighbourhoods litter-free.
- On May 13th, 2,700 participants from local schools and community groups took part in the Renfrew-Collingwood Cleanup organized by the Collingwood Community Policing Centre.
- The West End Cleanup Group celebrated their fourth anniversary on May 14th with another in their series of monthly litter cleanups.
- The South Hill (Fraser Street) Business Improvement Association had 80 volunteers spruce up their commercial shopping area on May 14th.
- The Vancouver Chinatown Merchants Association brought 120 volunteers together on May 15th to clean up their neighbourhood.
- The Delta Vancouver Suites Hotel conducted their first clean up on May 19th, as 15 staff members took part.
- Tourism Vancouver and Vancouver AM Tourism Association co-hosted a downtown breakfast cleanup on May 27th which included an audit of the litter that was removed.
