Waste Assessments
Special consideration may be given for the disposal of municipal solid waste material originating within the GVRD. A Waste Assessment Form (
PDF) allows the hauler to confirm that a material is accepted at the Vancouver Landfill in Delta for disposal. Possible types of materials include, but are not limited to dusty loads, off-specification waste, expired food products, CFIA ordered destruction and marine transport packaging. The following criteria must be met:
- Is not on the list of the Landfill’s prohibited wastes;
- Is not a Hazardous Waste as defined by the Hazardous Waste Regulation;
- Is not classified under the Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Regulations;
- Does not contain sulphur related products, such as sulphur oxides;
- Is not described as an irritant to skin, eyes, mucous membranes or the respiratory system;
- Is not an industrial process waste;
- Is not feasible to recycle.
Handling Procedures:
1. CFIA Burials (Definition: Any material that CFIA has identified as needing disposal.)
- Accepted Monday to Friday, 8:00AM to 2:00PM excluding holidays
- When filling out the waste assessment form, please circle YES to the question “is this material under destruction orders from a government agency (CFIA, Agriculture Canada, etc.)?”
- Companies must give the Landfill at least two weekdays written notice prior to the requested disposal date (faxed to 604.940.3188)
- Companies are required to co-ordinate the disposal date with the CFIA if an inspector needs to be present at the Landfill during disposal
- A $200 burial fee/load will be assessed, in addition to the charge for garbage disposal ($107/tonne).
2. Burials (Definition: Any load (non-CFIA) that requires burial due to a request by the company or materials that creates potential problems with site operating conditions.)
- Accepted Monday to Sunday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm including holidays.
- A $200 burial fee/load will be assessed, in addition to the charge for garbage disposal ($107/tonne)
