Work Programs
Maintenance Programs
- Fire Hydrants
- Water Meters
- Water services - The City has approximately 105,000 service connections that connect our customers to the water system. The connection pipe moves water from the distribution watermain, to the private property line or meter, beyond which is the property owner’s responsibility. Calculations are done to determine if a service pipe should be repaired or replaced under the capital water service replacement program.
- Water Main - This program refers to the repair and remedial work associated with pipeline failures including those sourced from both the distribution and transmission pipelines. Some examples include water leak repairs and water main break repairs. The City also has a Proactive Leak Detection Program to try to identify leaks early. Once leaks are identified, correlation equipment is used to pinpoint the location.

Capital Replacement Programs
- Fire Hydrants
- Water Meters
- Water service pipe replacement - Services are replaced on the basis of age, failure history and the cost of repair vs. cost of replacement. This work is driven by four factors: leaking lines reported or discovered through the leak detection program, the planned service renewal program, in conjunction with main line renewals or as a result of new developments and building construction.
- Water Main construction - The City replaces its transmission and distribution pipes according to a replacement strategy that includes a set of calculations that compare age, type of material and estimated remaining service life of the pipe. Fill out our construction survey to tell us how we are doing.
