CHAIR'S REPORT
The Chair reported on the
July 12th David Oppenheimer celebrations
in Stanley Park, and the recent sandcastle
building event out of West Point Grey Community
Centre.
GENERAL MANAGER'S REPORT
Park Board related items
on Council and Committee agenda this week
include Emery Barnes Park Phase 2 funding,
East Fraser Lands rezoning, Simon Fraser/Mount
Pleasant child development centre, and the
annual Capital Program. The Park Board's 2007
Annual Report was tabled; the publication features
major accomplishments of the past year and
reports back on progress against strategic
priorities.
Committee Report
On the last Committee meeting
agenda were presentations from Tennis BC,
Oppenheimer Park design, recreation core
services review, and a maintenance position
for the Vancouver Olympic Centre/Vancouver
Paralympic Centre.
STAFF REPORTS
Oppenheimer Park Design
Concept
The Board approved the revised Concept Plan
- Option 2 for East Vancouver's Oppenheimer
Park. The plan, developed after extensive community
consultation, retains all but two Sakura cherry
trees. Staff were asked to work with community
members to include appropriate historical commemoration
in the park redevelopment project.
Emery Barnes Park Phase
2 Funding
Recommendation A of the Council report was
endorsed, and the Board approved the Concept
Plan for the long-awaited Phase 2 of Downtown
South's Emery Barnes Park.
Plans call for a fenced-in dog area and a
larger children's playground.
Brockton Totem Poles Interpretive Centre
- Expansion to Gift Shop and Public Washroom
The Board deferred discussion of this item
to the September 15th meeting, pending further
information on design options and business
model.
Employment Engagement Survey
The Board postponed a decision on this item
until the Fall so that staff build a Task
Group and terms of reference including
scope of work.
Andy Livingstone Park Artificial Turf Replacement,
Delegated Authority
In recognition of the tight project timelines
and upcoming summer recess of the Board,
the General Manager was granted authority
to award and execute the contract for the
restoration of the artificial turf playing
fields at Andy Livingstone Park.
Administrative Report
- Position Change
The Board approved the creation of one Regular
Full-time CUPE 15 position for the new
Vancouver Olympic Centre/Vancouver Paralympic
Centre and Aquatic facility. The senior
maintenance position will be responsible
for the sophisticated refrigeration plant.
