CHAIR'S REPORT
The Chair reported on
the installation of the Stanley Park legacy
interpretive panels, opening of the Stanley
Park exhibition at the Vancouver Museum,
Opera Appassionata performance at Evans Yard
Paint Shop, and the 'Host a City Happening'
Aboriginal Day celebration.
GENERAL MANAGER'S REPORT
Park Board related items
on Council and Committee agenda this week
are: funding request for EXPO deck
repair, and 2010 Public Art Plan.
PRESENTATION
The Union of British Columbia
Municipalities (UBCM) awarded the Park Board
with the Community Stewardship Award for
the Stanley Park Restoration project, as
part of its 2008 Community Excellence Awards.
COMMITTEE REPORT
On the Park Board Committee
Agenda last week were: 2009 Budget Process,
Motion - Street Tree Management Plan, Seniors
Community Park, #1 Kingsway Operating Model
and Budget, Golf Operations, Use of Coal
Harbour Community Centre and Roundhouse Community
Arts and Recreation Centre during 2010 Winter
Games, Sport Strategy Implementation Plan,
and Motion - Burrard Civic Marina.
STAFF REPORTS
2009-2011
Capital Plan - Final Allocation
The Board approved the final allocation of
the 2009-2011 Capital Plan, totalling $89.3
million. The plan, which is the largest City
allocation received by the Park Board, address
issues of aging infrastructure, population
growth, cost escalation, and 2010 Winter
Games funding. The electorate will vote on
the Park Board Capital Plan during the Civic
Election November 15th.
Trillium Park Synthetic Turf Fields - Consultant
Award
The contract for construction consultant
services for synthetic playing fields and
perimeter path at Trillium Park in East Vancouver
was awarded to van der Zalm and Associates
for $154,915. Construction of the two new
fields will begin early in 2009.
Motion
The Board put forward a Motion that staff
contact the Marine Trades Association
to investigate their interest and potential
involvement in a redevelopment of Burrard
Civic Marina ands long-term vision for
marine boating operations; and that staff,
in consultation with the Board, determine
the best practices of other operators
in North America for similar operations;
and that staff report back to the Park Board
by March 1, 2009. The Motion carried.

The next regular Park Board
meeting will be held at 7 pm on Monday,
October 6, 2008.
