Dive In Killarney Now Open
New Killarney Pool Celebrates with Official Opening Ceremony!
March 1, 2006 - The new Killarney Swimming Pool is
an $11 million destination leisure aquatic facility serving all Vancouver
residents with public swim hours offered all day long. This beach-style
entry, fun-filled complex with magnificent views of the North Shore
Mountains has a giant water slide, delightful spray and play features
for all ages including the "lazy river", a 25 metre lap
pool, 15 metre warm lap pool, whirlpool and is wheelchair accessible.
Lengths Plus
A leisure pool is more than just a swimming tank and Killarney Pool's
beautiful architecture, with floor to ceiling windows, takes it to even
greater heights. The traditional lap pool is augmented by a separate,
warmer leisure pool with easy to access "beach entry" along
with a shallow length-swimming area for therapeutic exercise or lengths.
All pools are wheelchair accessible.
Fun, Fun, Fun
Also on deck are hot pools for soaking, a giant slide, jumping platform
and water cannon for playing and a nearby steam room. A lazy river feature,
bubble pit and water tunnel round out potential play stations while
taking a dip at Killarney.
Sparkling Water in a Room With a View
The new Killarney Pool's water is purified through a state-of-the-art
sand filtration system and then treated with ozone, reducing the quantity
of chlorine resulting in clearer water and cleaner air. And the beautiful
architecture of the building, which is twice the size of the previous
pool, boasts huge windows with dramatic views of Killarney
Park and the North Shore mountains.
Blue Water – "Green Building"
First we recycled the majority of demolition materials from the old
pool and then we ensured that the new pool was designed to operate as
efficiently as possible to reduce use of energy and water. Annual fuel
savings are anticipated to be about $80,000.
