All Stanley Park Roadways Now Open

January 4, 2007 (No. 1) - Park Board staff have completed the reopening of the last few roadways that have remained closed due to the December 15th wind storm. These are North Lagoon Drive, the southbound entrance into the park from the Causeway and the Brockton Point Cut-off.

Residents and tourists are welcome back to Stanley Park, but as there is still a great deal of clean up work to do, may occasionally encounter temporary closures. The public is reminded to respect signage and barricades on trails and stay out of forested areas.

Last week Park Board Chair Ian Robertson announced the creation of a dedicated Stanley Park Restoration Team. This staff group will develop principles and process around the restoration of the park, drafting a strategy and plan for the Park Board's consideration and approval in January. The plan will include a process for damage assessments and options and resources required for recovery and restoration.

Donations to help in the restoration of the park can be made to the Stanley Park Fund. Details on how to donate to the new fund can be found on the Park Board's web site at www.vancouverparks.ca .
