Symbol of the Stanley Park Storm to Be Moved Tomorrow.

Hundred Year Old Catalpa Tree Almost as Old as the Park

February 8, 2007 (No. 12) - The massive, hundred year old Catalpa tree near the entrance to Stanley Park that fell during the December 15th windstorm will be moved tomorrow. The tree which has blocked the Seawall for the last seven weeks has become a symbol of the power and devastation of the storm.

Work will begin at 7:30 am tomorrow morning and will take four hours to complete. A crane will be used to move the tree to the open, grassy area of nearby Devonian Park where it will lie as a permanent reminder of the windstorm that ripped through the park, knocking down 10,000 trees in its path.
