The Public Forum, jointly sponsored by the Faculty of Forestry, UBC, the School of Resource and Environmental Management, SFU and the Vancouver Park Board will provide an opportunity to learn more about the science behind the Stanley Park restoration process, the challenges and opportunities, following the devastating windstorm that struck the park last December. This panel of experts has been involved in the damage assessment and restoration plans for the park's recovery.
Speakers include Paul Lawson, Manager of the UBC Malcolm Knapp Research Forest; Steve Mitchell, Associate Professor, Faculty of Forestry, UBC; Ken Lertzman, Professor and Director, School of Resource and Environmental Management, SFU; John McLean, Professor, Faculty of Forestry, UBC and Stephen Sheppard, Professor, Faculty of Forestry, UBC. The forum will be moderated by Bruce Larson, Head of Forest Resources Management Department, UBC.
At the Special Meeting of the Park Board on April 16th the Commissioners will consider the staff report and the proposed Restoration Plan for the park's recovery. Members of the public are invited to share their ideas about this project. The staff report and proposed plan will be available on April 10th on the Park Board web site. Those wishing to speak at the Special Meeting should register by 12 noon on April 16th by phoning 604-257-8451.
