Stanley Park Seawall from Georgia Street to Pipeline Road

Two-Way Traffic in Effect as of Saturday, April 21, 2007

April 19, 2007 (No. 11) - Beginning this Saturday, April 21st and until further notice, the Seawall between the Georgia Street entrance and the north foot of Pipeline Road will be two-way for skaters and cyclists. Skaters and cyclists are urged to use caution during this time and respect others using the Seawall.

The two-way lanes are demarcated by a painted line on the Seawall surface to remind cyclists and skaters that they are "sharing the road". Several gates have also been installed at narrow points along the route where skaters and cyclists will have to slow down or walk. Visitors should look for information signs and a map at the park entrance adjacent to Devonian Park. A sign and map indicating detour options will also be installed on the Seawall at the north foot of Pipeline Road.

Staff expect that the two kilometre stretch of Seawall between Pipeline Road and Third Beach will remain closed until the end of summer while restoration work is carried out to stabilize the escarpment above the Seawall, to remove debris that has fallen onto the Seawall and to inspect and repair any structural damage the Seawall sustained from last December's windstorm.

The two-way option on the Seawall is one of three detours that has been developed to accommodate Seawall users during the extended Seawall closure period. In order to reduce traffic congestion on the Seawall, cyclists are encouraged to use either Detour A or Detour B as indicated in the table below.
