
Architects of Park Board 2010 venues honoured

- Architects of the Vancouver Park Board's four new 2010 Winter Games legacy facilities were honoured today with Excellence in Green Building Practices awards for sustainable venue construction. The one-time awards were presented to fifteen architectural firms involved in nine projects constructed for the Games.

The presentations were awarded by the GLOBE Foundation
and World Green Building Council
to recognize the architects who, as a group, developed the largest set of simultaneously constructed, single project, low environmental impact facilities in history. The GLOBE Foundation is an international, not-for-profit organization dedicated to finding practical business-oriented solutions to the world's environmental challenges. The World Green Building Council is a union of national councils whose mission is to accelerate the transformation of the global built environment towards sustainability.
Presentation of the awards took place inside the new Trout Lake Rink, which was constructed to LEED Silver standard. The rink's dramatic roof beams are made from British Columbia wood and the lobby area features Douglas fir downed in Stanley Park during the 2006 windstorm.
