Come celebrate the 120th birthday of Vancouver's largest and oldest park!

Explore the remarkable history of this important national treasure and learn more about the natural forces and human impacts have shaped the park as we know it today. Visit the Vancouver Museum and go back in time through an exciting and interactive exhibition. In Stanley Park you will discover a series of new interpretive panels that have been installed at key locations around the park, bringing dozens of stories about the ecology and history of the park to life.

"The Unnatural History of Stanley Park" sheds some light on puzzling blind spots in our romance with this national treasure, which turns 120 this year. In this 700 m² (7,500 ft²) exhibition, visitors will learn about the impacts of the early settlers and the evolution of a British character to the park's gardens and monuments. The exhibition looks at the way the park became the "backyard" for an entire city of newcomers, a place for active sports for some, for others a retreat for quiet contemplation and inspiration for art.

The public was invited to participate in the exhibition by sharing their own Stanley Park memories through a collective album of streamed images from Flickr and video from YouTube. Visit the museum website at vanmuseum.bc.ca to find out more.

The Stanley Park Legacy Interpretive Panels

Thirty-six colourful, illustrated panels have been permanently mounted around the park. Locations were carefully chosen to help tell the stories illustrated on the panels. Duplicates of several panels have been added at key public gathering points in the park. A self-guided tour of the interpretive panels is available as a brochure that can be picked up at the Stanley Park Information Booth or can be downloaded from this website.
