Limited Mobility Access
VanDusen visitors can enjoy the Garden all year round regardless of their mobility.
Parking
There are stalls at the front of the Parking Lot reserved for limited mobility guests. Vehicles using these stalls must display the special wheelchair/limited mobility decal issued by the City of Vancouver.
There is also a drop off area to facilitate the arrival and departure of limited mobility guests who may not be using a vehicle that has a decal.
Facility and Garden access
The Entrance Pavilion, Administration Building, Floral Hall and Shaughnessy Restaurant are fully accessible to wheel chairs, mobility scooters and walkers.
Access to the Garden for wheelchairs, walkers and scooters is via the ramp off the right hand (north) side of the Entrance Deck.
Touring the Garden

Many of the Garden’s paved paths are accessible to wheelchairs, walkers and mobility scooters. These are clearly marked on the Visitor Guide Map (blue dotted line). Be sure to pick up a copy from the Cashier Desk as you enter the Garden. Also see information below under Safety Points.
For those guests who are not in a wheelchair or scooter, but have limited walking ability, the Garden is pleased to offer guided cart tours from April through October at 1, 2 and 3 p.m. daily. Advance booking is suggested for weekdays by calling 604-257-8666. Weekends and holidays are on a first come, first served basis.
Washrooms
Wheelchair accessible washrooms are located in the Entrance Pavilion adjacent to Shaughnessy Restaurant and in the Administration Building (Floral Hall) across form the Reception Desk.
Wheelchairs
Four wheelchairs are available to borrow from the Entrance Pavilion to use around the Garden. These are free of charge and available on a first come, first served basis.
Whether bringing your own wheelchair, or borrowing one of ours, there are some important safety points to note below.
Safety Points for mobility scooters, wheelchairs, limited walking ability or poor eye sight
- Wheelchair paths/routes are marked on the Visitor Guide Map with a blue dotted line - Rhododendron Walk and the Main Great Lawn Path (east-west to the Cherry Grove) marked on the map in red, are also accessible but must be used with caution.
- Many of the Garden’s paths, both paved and un-paved can be uneven. Care should be taken for those using walking aids.
- Some steps do not have handrails or handrails on both sides.
