What Activities Keep You Fit and Active?
The Britannia 55+ Walking Group is called Best Foot Forward. We meet on Tuesdays at 10:15a.m.at the Britannia Library and Saturdays at 10:15 a.m. at the Al Mattison Lounge. The prime movers of Best Foot Forward includes: Virginia Buckland, Laurette Vital, Deborah Dunlap, Linda Massaro, Flora Raynes and Judi Stewart. We like to do a variety of walks that last about 2½ to 3½ hours. It's fun to get out and see all the beautiful walks in the city. Relaxing and enjoying the walks with good friend and companions is the primary focus of the group.

What Motivated You to Become Active?
We enjoy meeting different people and finding out what is happening in the city. We maintain an ongoing blog of our walks and enjoy sharing our experiences with others.

How Do You Motivate Yourself to Stay Fit?
There are so many beautiful murals, statues, fountains and parks to see in the city.
We want to stay fit so we can enjoy and share the beauty of Vancouver with our friends and family. Our walks always have a destination or route and sometimes a stop along the way at one of Vancouver many great cafés. This is a great motivator for many in the group.

Walking Tips?
Here are some walking tips to embrace when preparing for a walking tour:

  • Wear clothes and shoes appropriate for the weather
  • Bring water and a snack
  • Bring bus pass or tickets (we usually need them)
  • Bring a camera

Have clear guidelines for the members of the walking group so they know when to arrive, where we are going and when we will be finished. If someone needs to leave a walk before it's finished, they can do so, but they must notify the leader first.
