English Bay Polar Bear Swim

The Vancouver Polar Bear Swim Club is one of the largest and oldest Polar Bear Clubs in the world. Costumes and the Peter Pantages Memorial 100 yard swim race are the highlights of this event. To be a club member you register before the swim. Registration takes place in front of the English Bay Bathhouse from 12:30pm - 2:30pm each New Year's Day. You may also register by clipping out the coupon in the Province and presenting it at the registration desk the day of the swim. Your free membership includes a commemorative button after you take the plunge.

Resolution Run

Start the New Year off on the right foot by establishing or maintaining an active lifestyle. Take part in the 27th annual Resolution Run and Walk. This 5 km run starts at Denman & West Georgia Street and proceeds through Stanley Park. In addition to post-event refreshments, you will also receive stylish limited-edition Resolution Run Gear free with entry!

Chilly Chase

Everyone is a winner in this race. With the option of running 5, 10 or 15K participants all receive a souvenir finishing medal in this first TryEvents race of the season. The route around the Seawall is quick and flat, with gorgeous views of the City.

Vancouver Hospice Society: Bereavement Walking Program
Wednesday January 25 or Saturday January 28, 2012 9:45am  Vancouver Planetarium
Join this supportive group for those who have suffered the loss of a loved one. The group gathers in front of "The Crab" outside the Planetarium at 1100 Chestnut Street, and departs at 10:00am sharp. All walks are about 60 minutes in length, done at a casual pace and lead by trained hospice volunteers. The Society runs three eight week sessions throughout the year. The Sanctuary at Hastings Park Nature Walks

Participation in these walks is free! They begin in the north-east corner of the Sanctuary rain or shine. Suitable for seniors, adults and families, the walk is lead by a naturalist who will help you identify the amazing diversity that now exists in this 'natural' city park. No dogs please. Please use public transit and walk in via the Renfrew & Pandora, Hastings & Renfrew or Hastings & Lillooet entrances.

Walk for Memories
Sunday January 29, 2012  1:00 pm  Stanley Park Pavilion (Malkin Bowl)
Join us for the Investors Group Walk for Memories along the Stanley Park seawall, and help make a difference for people impacted by Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. This event is fun and exercise for the whole family. Pre-registration is required and may be done on the day of the event at noon.

The Great Canadian Chill

"The Coolest Event in Canada" is a traditional "polar bear dip" where Chillers rush into icy cold waters to raise money for the Sears Charitable Foundation to help fund the 17 Canadian children's pediatric oncology centers. Prizes for the best costumes and warm beverages help make this awesome event a great deal of fun!

Dave Reed Spring Classic

This year's Spring Classic 5km will be run along the scenic Stanley Park seawall. Walkers, joggers, runners and strollers welcome. Pre-registration is required, and can be done on race day starting at 7:00am.

The Power of Movement
Sunday March 4, 2012  10:00am  Creekside Community Recreation Centre
This amazing group yoga class has a capacity of 250 participants and will be held in the community centre gym. All proceeds benefit the Arthritis Research Foundation.

UBC Triathalon
March 11, 2012
This is one of BCs largest and longest running triathlons. Pick from the Olympic, Sprint or Short distance events, or duathlon, relay or the kids aquathlon. The beautiful UBC Campus provides a lovely course for both newbies and pros.

Renfrew Ravine Nature Walk
Monday March 12, 2012   9:30   Renfrew Community Centre
Join a naturalist and bird enthusiast for a walk through the Renfrew Ravine, an inner city 'nature sanctuary'. Participants will meet, rain or shine, at the south entrance to Renfrew Community Centre off 22nd Ave. Families, seniors and adults are welcome. The ravine is wheelchair and stroller accessible. Call Renfrew at 604-257-8388 for details.

St. Patrick's Day 5K
TBA     10:00am    Stanley Park
Put a little jig in your step. Come out for a flat and fast 5K run in scenic Stanley Park. The race starts and finishes on the seawall just past the entrance to the HMCS Discovery. Registration is required.

Spring Runoff
