Trout Lake Community Centre (3350 Victoria Drive)
April 23, 2007 - The Red Fox Waking Finale will take place Tuesday, April 24th from 4:30 - 5:30 pm at the Trout Lake Community Centre, located at 3350 Victoria Drive. At a special ceremony, children who have accumulated the most points through their participation in the Trail Tracker program, will receive prizes that inspire and equip them to stay active with their families all summer long.
The Active Communities - Red Fox Waking is a program providing recreation opportunities to Aboriginal families in East Vancouver. Each child receives a Red Fox Trail Tracker inviting them to participate in a variety of fitness activities in their community. Together, children and families go skating, swimming, play active games and learn circus skills. They learn about nature and grow food at the Urban Aboriginal Farm. Parents are given leadership training, equipping them with confidence and skills to assist in leading the games and activities.
Red Fox Waking is a pilot project in partnership with the Vancouver Park Board and hosted by Helping Spirit Lodge. Many partners have contributed to the success of Red Fox Waking, including the Urban Aboriginal Kitchen Garden Project, the Vancouver School Board, Britannia and Trout Lake Community Centre Associations. Red Fox Waking is part of an overall goal to inspire Vancouver residents of all ages to become more physically fit and enjoy healthier lifestyles.
