Active Adventure Program
The Active Adventure Program encouraged and supports elementary school students to lead more healthy active lifestyles by participating in local fitness opportunities.
Goals of the Active Adventure Program
The goal of the Active Adventure Program is to promote healthy lifestyles by supporting and providing free fitness adventures to elementary school students in Vancouver. These opportunities include: swimming, skating, wall climbing, nature walks, park days, and fitness circuits. The focus of this program is to help students and their families become more aware of local active living opportunities, and fun ways to be more active in their community and "Step It Up 20%".
The Active Adventure Program focused on offering the Active Adventure Passport from 2006 - 2009. This program emphasized fitness and family fun while completing the activities in the passport.
Red Fox is an integral part of the Active Adventure Program. Red Fox engages youth at inner city schools by training them to be active living ambassadors. The Red Fox youth take on leadership roles and provide fun movement education games and fitness activities during Active Adventure Program events.
SportFit
In fall 2009, the SportFit Challenge will be provided to Vancouver inner-city schools. This Challenge offers students an opportunity to measure their strength, agility, balance, speed, stamina and flexibility then identify sports they may like to try.
