December 2, 2003 - This week the Vancouver Park Board's popular web site shed its former countenance and way-finding tools for a fresh look that will offer new design, improved navigation and high-end functionality.

Like any pages on the Internet, the Park Board web site was considered cutting-edge at its inception in 1997, but not unlike the fashion world, styles on the web have a brief half-life. This site provides a wealth of information on topics such as board meetings, news releases, recreation opportunities, parks, construction projects, bench donations, and dog off-leash areas. It contains over 2,000 pages of information, and receives between 700 and 1,000 visits per day.

The new home page sports four changeable feature boxes up front, along with numerous direct link buttons, affording site users immediate access to the information they want. Also, all inner pages, including community centres, will have an updated, clean, consistent look and searches will be easier.

The Park Board web site will maintain its "freshness" by changing its home page feature boxes on a weekly basis to spotlight timely activities, events and other information of interest to the public.

Goals for the staff initiated web site redesign project emphasized "one click" access for most frequently requested information, contemporary style, quality graphics and user friendliness. The Park Board encourages user feedback on its site and will be responsive to customers and their suggestions.
