September 29, 2008 - Watch
the 2010 Winter Games venues take shape as
construction is underway while staying active
and getting fit. The Park Board's Step
Out Walks web pages feature 48 specially
designed walks, including four with an Olympic
flavour.
- Hastings Park and Coliseum, site of the Pacific Coliseum, 2.2 kilometres
-
Hillcrest and Queen Elizabeth Park, site of the Vancouver Olympic Centre/Vancouver Paralympic Centre and official competition venue for curling and wheelchair curling events, 3.0 kilometres
-
Killarney, site of the new Killarney Rink, official practice venue for short track speed skating, 5.4 kilometres
-
Trout Lake, site of the
new Trout Lake Arena, official practice venue
for figure skating, 2.6 kilometres
Each Step Out Walk includes a map, downloadable brochure and statistics on walk length and number of steps. There are also links to help you convert your walk into calories burned, safety tips for walkers and information on the benefits of walking as part of a healthy lifestyle. While on the Step Out Walks web page choose a walk from one of six themes from the list on the page's right side.
The Vancouver Active Communities program was created to inspire residents to increase physical activity 20% by 2010, a provincial challenge through ACTNow BC that was readily accepted by the City of Vancouver. Our collective goal is to be the most physically active city to ever host the Olympics and we are well on our way.
