Helping Haiti Earthquake Victims

January 15, 2010 - We have been touched and saddened as a community and on a personal level by the major earthquake in Haiti. For most of us, a tragedy on this scale is unimaginable.

The City of Vancouver has offered support to the people of Haiti including deployment of its Urban Search and Rescue Task Force.

The Government of British Columbia will provide $500,000 to the Red Cross to support victims and will work with the federal government to help rebuild the country.

The Government of Canada has announced it will match the contributions of individuals to eligible Canadian charitable organizations.

Donations to help the survivors of this crisis can be made by contacting

or other international aid agencies.

Fundraising events and activities may be taking place in various neighborhoods around Vancouver to assist the earthquake victims. Watch for them in your community.
