New Neighbourhood Park for Downtown South

April 23, 2002 (No. 28) - The Vancouver Park Board, at it's regularly scheduled meeting last night, unanimously approved a $1,008,000 tender to construct Phase One of the new Downtown South Park to be located at Richards Street and Davie Street:

Construction of the new neighbourhood park, which will provide additional green space for the growing population in Downtown South, will commence in the latter part of May with completion scheduled for this Fall. The park will have perimeter street trees, a central lawn, gardens, sidewalks and plazas, a water feature, seating, trellises and lighting. The second phase of the new park will proceed when the land assembly on the Seymour side is complete.

The Park Board also unanimously endorsed the City's anti-graffiti strategy , including a request for increased City funding in 2002 and 2003 for the removal of graffiti from Park Board property.

Additionally, Board members unanimously approved a design concept for the redevelopment of Victory Square  as well as $33,000 for consultant services related to the replacement of the existing artificial turf at Eric Hamber Secondary School  on Oak Street at West 37th Avenue.
