Vancouver 2002 "Beautiful Block Competition"Vancouver Residents Invited to Show Off Their Block Pride[return to Block Competition index page] Vancouver residents are invited to show off their block pride by joining with their neighbours and entering the Beautiful Block competition. The main criteria for the competition will be community spirit and participation as demonstrated through block beautification with plants, landscaping and gardens. Secondary criteria are: general tidiness, choice and condition of plants, overall impression and special features. Residents may nominate their own block or one they admire, but each nomination must include a whole block or one side of a block. Streetscapes and front gardens that can be seen from the front sidewalk will be judged. The winning block will have a "Beautiful Block" street sign designation, a pictorial spread in The Vancouver Courier, an award presentation at a Vancouver Park Board meeting, a half-day gardening consultation with David Tarrant and much more.
