Park Board Invites Public to Help Design a Major New Park in SouthEast False CreekMay 26, 2003 (No. 32) - The Vancouver Park Board is inviting Vancouver residents to help them design a major new waterfront park for the City. Located in the heart of the proposed new Southeast False Creek sustainable community, stretching from Cambie Bridge to Science World, the proposed park of 26 acres will effectively double the green space available today in Vancouver's Mount Pleasant neighbourhood. The public is asked to come to a one day Park Forum to see the current design put forward for the long awaited park and to give the Park Board their input and ideas. For most people, this will be the first chance to view and discuss the concept, the ideas and the opportunities of this unique park.
The event will consist of an open house featuring plans and a model of the park with staff and consultants available to answer questions; presentations from Park Board Chair Heather Deal and staff; workshops for the public to develop ideas; and a forum for discussion by all participants. The water artist, landscape architect and author Herbert Dreiseitl will show many of his imaginative projects to help generate fresh ideas. Refreshments will be served. The May 31st Park Forum, part of a series of public meetings regarding the proposed new sustainable neighbourhood, gives the public an opportunity to begin influencing the programming and design of the new park in Southeast False Creek.
