Website Launched for 1Kingsway

June 2, 2003 (No. 32) - Kingsway is the address and name of the City's latest project, inspired by CityPlan, combining services in one location. This development is a joint project of the City of Vancouver, the Vancouver Park Board and the Vancouver Public Library which will see the relocation of both the Mount Pleasant Library and Community Centre into one new complex together with a new child care centre. To take full advantage of the development capacity of the site and reduce the land cost to the civic facilities, market rental housing will also be developed and held in the City's Property Endowment Fund which manages the City's real estate investment portfolio.

Funding of $6.0 million for the project was included in the City's 2000-2002 Capital Plan and is currently available. An additional $7.5 million is included in the 2003-2005 Capital Plan and it is anticipated that Council will approve this funding over the next two years. The balance of the $26.7 million project funding will be provided from developer contributions and by the Property Endowment Fund for the rental housing component.
