Residents Invited to Help Name New Park in Downtown South
When a new park is created, the Park Board uses the following guidelines when naming it: a "constant" feature nearby or within the park - such as a bordering street or a distinctive natural or man-made landmark; an historical event or a person who has made a significant contribution to the Park Board and/or the City of Vancouver; a call for suggestions from the community for consideration by the Park Board. Drop off, Mail or Fax ideas to the The Downtown South park site, which will eventually comprise almost the full city block bounded by Davie, Richards, Helmcken and Seymour Streets, cost $16 million to purchase and was primarily funded through an area specific development cost levy. The first half of the park will cover about 40% of the nearly 2 acre space and cost $1.4 million to develop. The Downtown South park site was designed by Stevenson + Associates and is being constructed by UCC Group Inc.
