Special Events in Vancouver Parks

July 30, 2003 - Vancouver Parks host a diverse range of cultural events and outdoor activities. Listed below are some upcoming special events facilitated by the Park Board. For detailed information please go to the Park Board web site and look for Special Events under the Recreation Services signpost. The public can find out about local events in their neighbourhood by contacting their community centre.

Celebration of Light - July 30, August 2, 8 and 9 at 10:00 pm Presented by the Vancouver Fireworks Society at English Bay. Czech Republic, China and Canada compete in this fireworks extravaganza.

One Book One Vancouver (OBOV) The Vancouver Public Library (VPL) and the Park Board will offer several events in Stanley Park in conjunction with this summer's OBOV Stanley Park by Timothy Taylor. Stanley Park Memory Lane Tour, August 7 at 6:00 pm-8:00 pm (cost: $15.00);

Wetland Walk August 14 at 6:00 pm-8:00 pm (cost: $10.00) limited participation, reserve in advance by calling Lost Lagoon Nature House at 604-257-8544. Win an overnight experience in Stanley Park by testing your knowledge of OBOV's Stanley Park. Contest forms available at all libraries and on the VPL website.

Theatre Under the Stars - through til August 22 at Malkin Bowlin Stanley Park The King and I and Anne of Green Gables run on alternate nights. Phone: 604-734-3086.

Pacific Rim Kite Flying Festival - August 3 and 4 presented by BC Kite Flyers Association at Vanier Park - drop in.

Pride Festival - August 3 from 2:00 pm-6:00 pm at Sunset Beach Park. Preceded by the Pride Parade starting at 12 noon marching from Denman Street to Sunset Beach.
