Portside Park Children's Day Camp Relocated

July 30, 2003 - The Portside Park/CRAB Day Camp program for children has been temporarily relocated. The supervised playground program, organized by the Ray-Cam Co-operative Centre on East Hastings Street, is now being offered out of two other nearby Vancouver parks: MacLean and Strathcona. Approximately 30 children, aged 6-12 years, will continue to enjoy the enriched summer experience comprised of day trips, water play, crafts and special events.

Park Board Chair Heather Deal said, "As the protest encampment has grown, the nature of the group has changed and we are concerned. The well-being and safety of children in our programs is a priority and we have determined that they would be better served in alternate locations until the encampment is gone. Protestors are continuing to break Park Control By-Laws and the Board urges them to leave voluntarily, and return the park to the community."

Portside is a 2.50 hectare park located at the north Main Street Overpass on the waterfront.
