Film Event Includes Oldest Known
Footage of Vancouver
May
26, 2004 (No. 34) - As part of the Looking Back series, the
Vancouver Park Board and CBC
Television
will present a film event hosted by Kerrisdale
Community Centre. A film of Downtown dating from 1907 is thought
to be the oldest known film footage of Vancouver. Also included are:
a southward trip on the Interurban; view from the front of a 1951 tramcar
and Hycroft House (1960's) which offers an interesting and spooky history
of this Shaughnessy mansion. In Sweeney's Cooperage (1960's), a young
boy gets a tour of the cooperage, on the site of what is now Cooper's
Park in Yaletown, from Mr. Sweeney himself. Also featured is 1980's
news footage on the controversial demolition of walk-up apartments in
Kerrisdale.
