Celebration Marks Quilchena Park RedevelopmentSeptember 5, 2006 (No. 62) - The Vancouver Park Board is hosting a reopening celebration to mark the completion of upgrades to Quilchena Park, located at 33rd Avenue and Valley Drive (off Arbutus Street). The event features the official opening of the park's new neighbourhood skateboard facility and the Hellenic Plaza, which was made possible through a generous donation by the Hellenic Community of Vancouver. Activities will include skateboard demonstrations, a mini soccer clinic for kids, dog agility demonstrations (interested dogs and their masters may participate), refreshments and more. Saturday, September 9, 2006 This scenic 7.7 hectare (19 acres) neighbourhood park has recently undergone a redevelopment process that included public consultation in developing the concept plan. The $650,000 project included upgrades to the dog off-leash area, the addition of formal entrance plazas, new walking paths, new trees and benches and improved drainage, making the park usable in all seasons of the year and providing for more passive park enjoyment and activities in the park. The landscape architecture firm of Durante Kreuk Ltd. was selected to develop the design plan and Cedar Crest Lands (BC) Ltd. was the contractor that completed the work. - 30 - For more information contact Carol DeFina, Communications Coordinator, at 604-257-8440.
