Spinning & Weaving Demonstration
at the Children's Farmyard in Stanley Park
July 28, 2009 (No. 43)
- Families are invited to come and enjoy this hands-on demonstration of the art of spinning and weaving. Kids will get to see how sheep's wool and alpaca fleece is taken from its raw form, washed and prepared, then spun on a traditional foot powered spinning wheel. Participants will be invited to join in on many of the activities and even get to make their own "felted balls" a real favorite with the kids.
It's also a great educational opportunity for day camp outings. Kids not only learn about the ancient arts of spinning and weaving but also meet the animals the wool and fleece came from!
