Assignment Editors: Special Events in Vancouver Parks

August 4, 2009 (No. 19) - Vancouver Parks host a diverse range of cultural events and outdoor activities. Listed below are some upcoming special events facilitated by the Vancouver Park Board. Music in the Garden Family Day Sunday, August 16th 10 am to 3 pm VanDusen Gardens A music and environmental 'village' on the Great Lawn, featuring Tickle Trunk Touring Circus, a troupe of professional circus artists who use aerial work, acrobatics juggling and music to tell their story. Face-painting, craft-making, an interactive drumming circle and a musical instrument 'petting zoo' where kids can get a close-up look at instruments and hear their sounds. Bard on the Beach May 28th - Sept 26th at Vanier Park Bard is presenting its annual summer Shakespeare Festival and special events. Featured this year under the tents are Comedy of Errors, Othello, All's Well That Ends Well and Richard II. Ph.604-737-0625 or www.bardonthebeach.org

Latin Summer Fest August 16th Noon to 7 pm John Hendry Park The annual event promotes Latin culture through its colourful spirit, arts, culture and food. All day music, dancing, an artisans' market, kids' activities and more! Go to www.latinsummerfest.com for more details.

Farmers' Markets Various Locations Featuring farm fresh fruits, vegetables and plants, quality local crafts, delicious edibles, community information, live music and lots more. Trout Lake Community Centre Parking Lot, Saturdays, 9 am - 2 pm, to October 10 th; Nelson Park, Saturdays, 9 am to 2 pm, to October 24th; Thornton Park, Wednesdays, 3 to 7 pm, to October 21st; Kitsilano Community Centre Parking Lot, Sundays, 10 am to 2 pm, to October 25th.
