Dive into the Last Days of Summer! Pools, Parks, Beaches and Links Await You

August 31, 2009 (No. 49) - Though summer is beginning to wind down, there's still time to enjoy some our city's great outdoor amenities. Residents are encouraged to drop in for a swim at one of our three heated, seaside pools. They are located at Kitsilano Beach Park, Second Beach in Stanley Park and New Brighton Park, just north of the PNE. Or, plan a trip to the beach at one of our ten lifeguarded bathing beaches, with a stop for lunch at one of our food concessions. Lifeguard staff at all locations will be finished after Labour Day, Monday, September 7. Kits Pool will continue to stay open through Sunday, September 13.

Organize a round of golf at one our great courses. It's affordable and within easy reach-in terms of dollars, distance and bookings. Book online for one of our three full-length golf courses and just drop in at one of three pitch & putt courses located around the city.

Discover one of our new parks that opened this summer-each offers something special to discover:

  • Ebisu Park located at 72nd Avenue and Osler Street provides a new retreat in the bustling Marpole neighbourhood. The park features a playground and climbing rock, a quiet garden area with seating, inviting entrance arbours, a dry stream bed of rocks and flowing Mexican feather grass that empties into an ornamental garden. The park is popular with both families and those seeking a tranquil spot to read or reflect.
  • Oak Meadows Park located at Oak Street at 37th Avenue includes a sports field that is suitable for both soccer and Ultimate. It also features a dog off-leash area, children's play area and meandering pathways through meadows and natural, treed areas are great for bird watching. Panoramic views of Vancouver and the North Shore mountains are visible from parts of the park.

You will find additional information about pools, beaches, golf courses, parks and more on our web site.
