Special Events in Vancouver Parks

September 2 , 2009 (No. 20) - Vancouver Parks host a diverse range of cultural events and outdoor activities. Listed below are some upcoming special events facilitated by the Vancouver Park Board. Eighth Annual Vancouver Triathlon in Stanley Park Monday, September 7 Event location is Second Beach near the Ceperley Playground. The park's roadways will be closed from 6:30 to 10 am for the event. For more information go to www.multisportscanada.com .

Walk With A Naturalist in the Hastings Park Sanctuary Saturday, September 26 at 9am. Join naturalist Al Grass and learn how 80 or more species of birds have adopted the Sanctuary as their new habitat. Meet at the northeast corner of the Sanctuary for this two hour, free, guided walk. Rain or shine. Sponsored by the Hastings Park Conservancy. This invitation is not extended to dogs. Go to www.hastingspark.ca for more information.

The IVY Project Environmental Workshops in Stanley Park 10 am – Noon and 1 – 4pm Last Saturday of every month through November, 2009. Join artist Sharon Kallis in a free drop-in workshop to assist in creating a site-specific environmental art installation. Meet at the Stanley Park Ecology Society Office at the Pavilion. Zimsculpt at VanDusen Gardens August 22 to October 4  An exhibition and sale of over 150 stone sculptures from Zimbabwe on a world-wide tour. Included with Garden admission. Go to www.vandusengarden.org for details.

Bard on the Beach May 28th - Sept 26th at Vanier Park Bard is presenting its annual summer Shakespeare Festival and special events. Featured this year under the tents are Comedy of Errors, Othello, All's Well That Ends Well and Richard II. Ph.604-737-0625 or www.bardonthebeach.org

Terry Fox Run starts at Ceperley Meadow in Stanley Park Sunday, September 13 at 10 am. Ten kilometre run, but shorter courses for other groups. Help celebrate 29 years of running success! For registration and other information go to www.terryfox.org .
