Three elementary schools celebrate Active Adventure Passport achievement

October 20, 2009 (No. 56) - The Vancouver Park Board announced today that on October 21 Carleton, Livingstone and Nightingale Elementary Schools will celebrate their Active Adventure Passport participation at special assemblies that will feature National Geographic adventurers Colin and Julie Angus.

The 2009 Active Adventure Passport was given to more than 31,000 students in all 91 elementary schools in Vancouver. Students receive passport stamps when they participate in each of the twelve active adventures that include swimming, skating, soccer, climbing and walks in local parks. The three elementary schools with the greatest participation are being recognized for their achievement.

Colin and Julie Angus were recipients of the 2007 National Geographic Adventurer of the Year award. They will share their story of their circumnavigation of the earth using only their muscles to row, walk and cycle. Julie was the first woman to row across the Atlantic Ocean.

The Active Adventure Passport program is part of the City of Vancouver's Active Communities Vancouver initiative working in conjunction with the Vancouver School Board. It is part of an overall goal to inspire and equip Vancouver residents of all ages to become more physically fit and enjoy healthier lifestyles.
