The task of restoring the park after the extensive damage caused by
the December 2006 storm was long and complex, requiring the dedicated
efforts of staff, consultation with forestry, geotechnical and ecology
experts and input from community stakeholders and partners. Several
committees were struck to guide and support the restoration process.
Staff Team
Led
by Jim Lowden, the Stanley Park Restoration Team developed principles
and process around the recovery and restoration of the park. The restoration
plan involved damage and hazard assessments, procedure choices,
safety programs, resources required and strategies for implementation.
As well, the group considered the community's vision for the damaged
areas of the park.
