Move for Health Day Events

Join millions of others world-wide and participate in Move for Health Day, an international event created by the World Health Organization in 2002 promoting physical activity. To celebrate this event’s 10th anniversary, enjoy these free community events:

West End Move for Health Day Fitness Fair

Date: Saturday May 5, 2012
Time: 10am-2pm
Location: West End Community Centre, 870 Denman Street

Take advantage of free fitness centre, group fitness class and children’s playtime admission at the West End Community Centre during this all ages event. Bring your family and friends to participate in individual and team challenges, including a scavenger hunt and relay races with prizes. Meet our instructors, personal trainers and other local businesses at our health and wellness booths.

Roundhouse Urban Walk and Roll

Date: Thursday May 10, 2012
Time: 9am-11am
Location: Roundhouse Community Centre, 181 Roundhouse Mews

Benefit from a short health talk by exercise specialist Diana VanderVeen, followed by a dynamic warm up and tour of historical Yaletown, with a focus on architecture, public arts and spaces led by Catherine Pulkinghorm from Artist Walking Home (www.artistswalkinghome.ca). Each participant will receive a Tractivity, which records steps and analyzes speed and calories burned (www.tractivityonline.com ). After the tour, enjoy healthy snacks, refreshments, informational booths and a social period at the Roundhouse.

Walk and Dance with the Dragon at Kensington!

Location: Kensington Community Centre, 5175 Dumfries Street

Join this free, all ages event and help the giant water dragon puppet move for health with resident artist Julia Carr and a local family physician. The procession will be followed by an exciting flash mob dance inspired by the year of the dragon.
