Permitted Grass Court Volleyball in Parks

The Park Board issues Park Use Permits for leagues and league tournaments. Criteria used to determine the level and frequency of volleyball permitted in a park includes:

Impact on Park Neighbours

Major areas of concern include parking and noise. Larger parks with off-street parking are better suited to accommodate larger volleyball events.

Field Maintenance

The primary concern is the overuse of a turf field. To reduce "wear patterns" the frequency of play must be limited and/or rotated to ensure fields are not damaged. In addition, field condition must be monitored throughout the season of play.

Park Amenities

Larger events require washrooms and off-street parking.

To control the impact organized volleyball has on a park, the surrounding neighbourhood and others' use of the park, the Park Board has implemented the following guidelines for volleyball leagues and their tournaments:

Volleyball Leagues/Events

League play is limited to one night per week per park and tournament play is limited to one weekend per month per park. Permit approval for all events is based on the park size, the impact on neighbours, park amenities such as off-street parking and the availability of washrooms facilities.
