Using Address Search
- Fill in the address number, tab to the field to the right, begin typing
the street name or use the drop-down list for the street name and click
Go.
- When clicking the Go button, there are four possible types of results:
- One-to-one address match - the map will redisplay at a default scale
of 1:2000 with your selected address highlighted and in the centre of
the map.
- One location, multiple addresses - the Address Search results window
will appear showing the address you are searching for, the displayed
main address and any other related or secondary addresses at the location.
The map is displayed at the default scale of 1:2,000 with the main
address highlighted in the centre of the map.
- One address, multiple locations - the Address Search results window
will appear listing the address you are searching for. It will display
the address as many times as the address physically exists and each
address will show as a Main address under Type. Clicking Go To under
the Select on Map column will change the selection to highlight each
individual occurrence of the address.
- No match - you will get a message saying "Unable to locate matching
feature". If this happens you could try Zoom Goto for Hundred
Blocks or use zoom and pan
to navigate to the area of the map. Example: 455 W
12th Av

Detailed Instructions for Using the Address Search fields
- Fill in the address number in the Number field, then tab or click into
the field immediately to the right, the Street field, and begin typing
the street name. As you enter characters, the field will be populated
with street names that match the characters you have typed, and the drop-down
list immediately below will show the street name as well.
- If you don't want to type the entire street name or or are unsure of
the exact street name, click the down arrow to the right of the drop-down
list box to open the street name list. The list is alphabetical, starting
with the street name that matches most closely with the characters you
have already typed. Scroll to the correct name and, once you have found
it, click to highlight it or hit Enter and then
click Go. The wildcard symbol does not work with
these fields.
- The Street field accepts the correct spelling of a street name or
it accepts characters until it can not supply a matching name. For example,
you can type in Coal Harbour Quay and the field allows all the characters.
If you type in Cox instead of Coa, the "x" then disappears because
there are no street names in Vancouver starting with "cox".
This gives you the opportunity to enter another letter. If you are not
sure of the correct spelling, use the backspace key to remove the incorrect
letter. This will allow the drop-down list to populate with street names
or you could click the Reset button and start
again.
Note: Numbered avenues (e 1st to w 77th) are
listed first in the drop-down list. Streets with West or East spelled completely
in the street name (East Boulevard or Westbury Lane) are placed alphabetically
in the list.
