Zoom in toolZoom in

Each time you zoom in, you'll see the map area at twice the previous magnification:

  1. Click the Zoom button in the Toolbox, or right-click on the map and choose Zoom » Zoom In.
  2. Click on the map to create a centre point for the new zoom area.
  3. Zoom In is a sticky button; VanMap will retain this function until you select a different sticky button.

Zoom out toolZoom out

Each time you zoom out, you'll see the map area at half the previous magnification:

  1. Click the Zoom Out button in the Toolbox, or right-click on the map and choose Zoom » Zoom Out.
  2. Click a point on which to centre and redraw the map.
  3. Zoom Out is a sticky button; VanMap will retain this function until you select a different sticky button.

Zoom to a specific scaleZoom to a map scale

Zoom Scale dialogue boxTo zoom to a specific map scale:

  1. Right-click on the map, and then choose Zoom » Scale to display the Zoom Scale dialogue box.
  2. In the text box, type the scale ratio you want to use. For example, to zoom to a scale of 1:200 type 200 in the text box.
  3. Click OK.
    Note: Remember that the larger the second number in the scale ratio is, the more you will zoom out, so you will display a larger area with less detail. The smaller the second number is, the more you will zoom in, so you will display a smaller area with more detail.

Zoom to previous map viewZoom to the previous view

To redraw the map at the previous zoom magnification and location, click on the Zoom Previous button or right-click on the map, and then choose Zoom » Previous.

Zoom Goto: zoom to a specific location by hundred block, intersection or placeZoom Goto

To zoom to a specific location, such as an address or hundred block:

  1. To display the Zoom Goto dialogue box, click the Zoom Goto button in the Toolbox, or right-click on the map and choose Zoom » Goto.
  2. Select a category from the Category list.
  3. Type a location name to use as the centre of the map.
  4. For Zoom Goto > Parcel Main Address or Parcel Related Address set the 'Zoom to Width' to an appropriate width. Zoom Goto > Places or Hundred Blocks will automatically default to an appropriate map width.
  5. Click OK.
    Note: If you forget to enter a 'Zoom to width' for Zoom Goto > Parcel Main Address (it may appear that VanMap has not zoomed anywhere as you are still at too great a scale to see the address you have selected), or you wish to force a change to the map width after using Zoom Goto > Places or Hundred Blocks, then use the Zoom > Width feature.

Unzoom: return to the original map viewUnzoom to display the entire map

To display the entire map, click the Unzoom button in the Toolbox, or right-click on the map and choose Zoom » Unzoom.

Zoom to a rectangular areaZoom to a rectangular area

To highlight a rectangular area on the map and then zoom in to that area:

  1. Click the Zoom button, or right-click on the map and choose Zoom» Zoom.
  2. Click and drag the mouse to draw a rectangle over the area you want to display.

Zoom to selected

  1. Select an individual map object by clicking on the object to select it and deselect all previously selected objects. Shift-click to select more than one object.
  2. After you select the object(s), right-click on the map and then choose Zoom » Selected. The map centres on the selected objects and zooms in far enough to display just the selected objects.

Zoom to a map width

To specify the width of the map and zoom to that width:

  1. Right-click on the map, and then choose Zoom » Width to display the Zoom Width dialogue box.
  2. Enter a value in the Zoom Width dialogue box. Click OK.
