Definition:

There are many different types of poles on which the street lights are mounted:

  • Davit - a tapered octagonal steel pole, usually 25 to 30 ft high, the top of which has a 6 ft radius, ending in a horizontal tenon where the street light is mounted.
  • Post Top - a tapered octagonal steel pole which is a straight shaft and is usually 18 ft high with the top ending in a vertical tenon where the street light is mounted.
  • Decorative - a steel, concrete, fiberglass, cast iron, or aluminum pole which is designed and manufactured to match the decorative street light it is supporting.
  • Trolley - a tapered round, straight steel pole usually 30 ft high which supports also bus trolley lines.
