Definition:

The Public Art Layer displays the location of artworks throughout Vancouver, focussing primarily but not exclusively on permanent artworks developed through program. The tool tip that appears when the cursor hovers over a public art symbol displays the name of the artwork. Double-clicking on the symbol will open the corresponding page for the artwork from the Public Art Registry. Though the focus is on maintaining information on publicly owned works, there is also some information on privately owned work in the public domain. More information on Public Art can be found here:

The Public Art Registry was started in 1996 as a working vehicle for maintaining data about public art pieces. It was adapted for a web site in 1999. The Registry priorizes information about publicly owned art works, including those produced through the three areas of the Public Art Program: the Civic Program, the Private Development Program, and the Community Public Art Program. It also includes information on the artists.
