City of Vancouver awarded Canada's Top 100 Employers for 2010Canada's Top 100 Employers 2010

The City was named one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers Globe by Mediacorp Canada Ltd., the country’s largest publisher of employment guides and job-hunting periodicals. The Canada's Top 100 Employers project is a national competition to determine which employers lead their industries in offering exceptional workplaces for their employees.

Southeast False Creek Olympic Village awarded 2009 CUI Brownie AwardSalt Building

The City's Southeast False Creek Olympic Village project was awarded the 2009 CUI Brownie Award for Best Overall Project. Sponsored by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), the CUI Brownie Awards Globe are awarded annually to projects and programs that reflect leadership and innovation in brownfield redevelopment.

dogRetired City employee Paul Teichroeb awarded 2009 Summit Award

Former Director and Chief Licence Inspector Paul Teichroeb was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Summit Award in recognition of his 16 years in the area of animal services and his diligent efforts to make Vancouver a community that is safe for pets and people. The award was presented by industry colleagues as part of the 2009 Summit for Urban Animal Strategies (SUAS) Globe.

The City's Equipment Service Branch was awarded the 2009 Fleet Environmental Leadership Award by Automotive Fleet and Government Fleet magazine Globe for excellence in green fleet management and adherence to sustainable practices.

City named one of the top 100 Best Fleets in North America

The City's Equipment Service Branch was named one of the top 100 Best Fleets Globe in North America for 2009. The 100 Best Fleets award program recognizes and rewards peak performing public sector fleet operations in North America. The program also identifies and encourages ever-increasing levels of performance improvement within the fleet industry.

Electric carCity earns Gold Rating from E3 Fleet

The City earned a Gold Rating from E3 Fleet Globe, a national program that recognizes excellence in fleet management and environmental performance.

Under the E3 Fleet program, public and private sector fleets can seek formal ratings on staff training, idle reduction practices, vehicle purchasing practices, fuel data management, fleet operations and maintenance, trip and route planning, fuel efficiency, and greenhouse gas performance.

GastownGastown designated as a national historic site

Vancouver's Gastown Historic District was awarded the designation of National Historic Site of Canada Globe by the Honourable Jim Prentice, Canada’s Environment Minister and Minister responsible for Parks Canada, on the recommendation of the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada.

Gastown is an intact urban area of business with commercial buildings dating largely from 1886 to 1914.

EcoDensityThe EcoDensity initiative was awarded the 2009 Canadian Institute of Planners Award of Planning Excellence Globe in the category of City Planning. EcoDensity focuses on how density, design, and land use will contribute to the environmental sustainability, affordability and livability of the city.

Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services awarded 2009 Excellence in Health Promotion awardVancouver Fire and Rescue Services

The EMS Division of the Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services was awarded the 2009 Excellence in Health Promotion award by the British Columbia Medical Association Globe for its work in educating the community in CPR and first-aid, and promoting awareness of heart disease risk factors and lifestyle choices.

City of Vancouver recognized as a 2009 Progressive Employer of Canada

Proud to be recognized as a Progressive Employer of CanadaThe City of Vancouver made the 2009 Progressive Employers of Canada List Globe for its “mom-friendly” work culture. The List was compiled through a nationwide survey in November 2008 asking moms what they were looking for in a workplace of choice by Connect Moms, momcafé and Lisa Martin International.

Four PillarsCity's Four Pillar Drug Strategy awarded 2009 Secure City Award

The City's Four Pillar Drug Strategy, which advocates prevention, treatment, harm reduction and enforcement as four pillars in addressing drug addiction in the Downtown Eastside, was awarded the 2009 Secure City Award by the Canadian Urban Institute Globe.

SEFC Neighbourhood Energy Utility awarded CIE (BC) 2009 Energy R & D Award

The Southeast False Creek (SEFC) Neighbourhood Energy Utility (NEU) was awarded the Canadian Institute of Energy Globe (BC) Research and Development Award. The SEFC Neighbourhood Energy Utility was recognized in the field of energy technology for its outstanding research and development of its innovative sewer heat recovery project.

Vancouver Public LibraryVancouver Public Library awarded the 2009 Dr. Dayton M. Forman Memorial Award

Vancouver Public Library was awarded the Dr. Dayton M. Forman Memorial Award by CNIB (Canadian National Institute for the Blind) Globe for its outstanding leadership in the advancement of library and information services for Canadians with vision loss.

City employee Judy Graves awarded honorary degree from UBC

Judy Graves, Coordinator in the City’s Tenant Assistance Program, Housing Centre, was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from the University of British Columbia for being a long-time advocate for the homeless and coordinator for Vancouver’s Tenant Assistance Program.

ULI 2009 Award for Excellence awarded to Grosvenor Americas

Grosvenor Americas received the Urban Land Institute's (ULI ) Globe Award for Excellence for the RISE. The City of Vancouver is credited by Grosvenor Globe for playing an important role in shaping the vision of this mid-rise building, recognized for successfully mixing large-format retail uses, locally focused stores, and 92 rooftop live/work units surrounding a 20,000 square foot green roof.

SEFC Neighbourhood Energy Utility awarded Willis Award for Innovation

NEUSoutheast False Creek (SEFC) Neighbourhood Energy Utility (NEU) was awarded the Willis Award for Innovation by the Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators Globe. The SEFC Neighbourhood Energy Utility is an environmentally-friendly community energy system that will provide space heating and hot water to all new buildings in Southeast False Creek, including the Olympic Village. It is designed to use sustainable heat sources with leading-edge technology.

Orpheum TheatreOrpheum Theatre awarded Canadian Music and Broadcast Industry Award

During the Canadian Music and Broadcast Industry Awards in Toronto, the Orpheum Theatre took home a Performing Arts Centre of the Year award in the Live Touring category.

Mountain View Cemetery awarded Regional Award of Merit Mountain View Cemetery

Mountain View Cemetery was awarded the Regional Award of Merit from the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects Globe for the redevelopment of the cemetery. The project was led by Glen Hodges, Manager of Mountain View and designed by a design collaboration of LEES+Associates and Phillips Farevaag Smallenberg, Landscape Architects.

Southeast False CreekSoutheast False Creek awarded National Merit Award

Southeast False Creek/ Olympic Village was awarded the National Merit Award from the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects Globe for the rehabilitation and design of the seawall/ waterfront. The project was designed by landscape architects PWL Partnership.
