About Us
The Crime Free Multi-Housing (CFMH) Program is direct and solution oriented. It is a resident friendly crime prevention initiative designed specifically to help apartment owners, managers, residents, police and municipal departments work together to keep illegal and nuisance activity off rental property. The benefits of a well-managed rental property extend to the entire neighbourhood and helps make communities a better place to live.
Program Goals
- Create safer apartment communities.
- Facilitate a co-operative effort between apartment owners, managers, residents and police to minimize crime.
- Provide education on essential knowledge on effective rental property management.
- Present residents with crime prevention information to maintain a safe and secure home.
- Reduce the number of calls of criminal and nuisance related incidents at apartment communities.
The CFMH Program is the only one of its kind in Canada. Since its inception in 1992 by the Mesa Arizona Police Department, it has been implemented in over 2,000 communities across North America. In BC, the program is in most communities in the Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island, Okanagan, and northern BC. Refer to the BC Crime Prevention Association
for other participating communities.
