How to File a Noise Complaint

Policy

Property Use Inspections Division has a standard policy for the investigation of complaints. These policy guidelines are:

  • Complaints must be validated by the name and phone# and/or address of the complainant. Anonymous complaints will be taken only in the following circumstances: Unsafe Conditions, Work Without Permit, Graffiti.
  • The City reviews the nature and legitimacy of the complaints received based on the City bylaws and within City jurisdiction.

Note: Confidentiality of complaints is protected under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

Noise Complaints

Our two (2) dedicated Property Use Inspectors respond to the majority of the noise complaints EXCEPT for these noise related issues.

For any noise related issues related to construction noise outside allowed hours, loud music and/or boisterous behaviour from businesses or private homes that arise outside of City of Vancouver working hours, please contact the Vancouver Police Non-Emergency Line at 604.717.3321 (note: these are a lower priority and will be handled if resources are available).

There are 3 ways to file a noise complaint with all the required detailed information provided:

  1. Call our Noise Complaints Hotline: 3-1-1;
