Mission Statement
The mission of the Licence Office is to support the community in the City by assisting the public with starting a business or obtaining a dog licence. We strive to create a challenging, safe, healthy, and rewarding workplace and to consistently provide the public with exceptional customer service, satisfaction, and a positive, memorable experience.
Role of the Licence Office
The Licence Office staff are responsible for processing applications for and the annual renewal of approximately 60,000 licences each year. This includes processing business licences and ensuring that new applications for businesses are located in premises that comply with City by-laws prior to the licences being issued. Other significant types of applications processed include:
- business licences for the sale of liquor in restaurants, pubs, clubs, lounges, cabarets, exhibitions, sporting events and concerts
- rental properties
- special events (trade shows, concerts)
- soliciting for charity licences
- municipal decals and commercial vehicle permits (plates)
- bicycle courier plates
- vehicles for hire licences (taxi cabs, limousines, driver training vehicles, rental cars and towing vehicles)
- dog licences
