Limousine

If you will be operating an antique limousine, bus limousine, luxury limousine, sedan limousine, sport utility limousine or stretch limousine, you will need to obtain a vehicles for hire licence plate for a limousine. You will be required to complete and submit a Vehicles for Hire Application Form PDF(137kb) with payment of the appropriate fee of $199.00 per vehicle.

Before we can issue you a vehicles for hire licence plate for your Limousine, you must already have or apply for a Vehicles for Hire Office licence. You will be required to complete and submit a Vehicles for Hire Application Form PDF(137kb) with payment of the appropriate fee of $126 plus a non-refundable application fee of $50. If the Vehicles for Hire Office is located in a residence in the City of Vancouver, you will also be required to complete and submit a Vehicles for Hire Home-Based Licence Application Form PDF(45kb).

You will need to obtain a chauffeur's permit which is required to be held by a chauffeur pursuant to the Motor Vehicle Act and protects the safety and security of passengers of these companies. To qualify for one, you must apply in person at the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) at 312 Main Street. You must have a Class 4 driver's licence under the Motor Vehicle Act and will be required to complete a police background check.

You will also need to obtain a licence from the Passenger Transportation Branch Globe. A passenger transportation licence is issued under the Passenger Transportation Act and Passenger Transportation Regulation and is required for individuals and companies who operate commercial passenger vehicles in British Columbia.

Antique limousine: a chauffeur-driven sedan motor vehicle at least 50 years old, not equipped with a meter, and hired only by prior reservation for an extended engagement or special purpose.

Bus limousine: a conventional bus, coach or truck which has been modified so that the seats in the passenger compartment are located along the perimeter of the vehicle, is not equipped with a meter and is hired only by prior reservation for an extended or special purpose.

Luxury limousine: a four-door sedan motor vehicle registered as a Rolls Royce or Bentley, not equipped with a meter, and hired only by prior reservation for an extended engagement or special purpose.

Sedan limousine: a full sized, four-door sedan motor vehicle of a manufacturer’s top quality line, with a closed body, a maximum seating capacity of five passengers, and an original, unaltered wheelbase of not less than 287.02 cm (113 inches), not equipped with a meter, and hired only by prior reservation for an extended engagement or special purpose. Sedan Limousine includes an eco-friendly sedan limousine approved by the Passenger Transportation Board provided it meets the requirements of Operational Policy IV.3.

Sport utility limousine: a four-door motor vehicle having the combined features of a sedan and truck and identified as a sport-utility vehicle by the manufacturer, with a closed body, a maximum seating capacity of eight passengers and an original, unaltered wheelbase of not less than 294.64 cm, not equipped with a meter, and hired only by prior reservation for an extened engagement or special purpose.

Stretch limousine: a four-door sedan motor vehicle or a stretched sport utility motor vehicle having the combined features of a sedan and truck and identified as a sport utility vehicle by the manufacturer, with a closed body, a minimum seating capacity of six passengers, not equipped with a meter, and hired only by prior reservation for an extended engagement or special purpose.
