Taxicab

If you want to operate a taxicab, you will need to obtain a licence from the Passenger Transportation Branch Globe. A passenger transportation licence is issued under the Passenger Transportation Act and Passenger Transportation Regulation and is required for individuals and companies who operate commercial passenger vehicles in British Columbia. You will also need to obtain a vehicles for hire licence from the City of Vancouver for a taxicab and will be required to complete and submit a Vehicles for Hire Application Form PDF (137kb) with payment of the appropriate fee of $522.00 per vehicle. If you want to drive a taxicab, you will need to obtain a chauffeur's permit which is required to be held by a chauffeur pursuant to the Motor Vehicle Act and protects the safety and security of passengers of these companies. To obtain one, you must apply in person at the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) at 2120 Main Street. You must hold a Class 4 driver's licence and will be required to complete a police background check and the Justice Institute Taxihost Training program Globe.
