Carnegie Senior's Program

Senior members in Carnegie are 73% of total memberships or 2551. Total memberships in 2008 were 4802. There are now more senior women members in the building than past years. The current number is 37% of all seniors which is 938 senior females.

The seniors' program is a unique one in the building in that they raise funds to support their program through coffee sales.

Seniors coffee sellers raised $65,345.14 during 2008.  Half of those funds go into stock replenishment and the remainder is spent on out trips, annual picnic, two daily newspapers, cable television, annual camping trip for 45 centre participants, and a small stipend for every senior hospitalized through out the year.

The seniors also contribute funds to other Carnegie events such as Children’s Christmas party, Halloween Dance, February 14th Women’s Memorial March, Volunteer Recognition Week, National Aboriginal Day & the New Years Eve Dance.

Seniors hold a monthly meeting to decide on out trips, making decisions on where funds will be spent, get updates on community and centre events and generally what‘s going on in the neighbourhood. Currently about 75 seniors attend this monthly meeting held the 3rd Thursday of each month at 2pm in the Theatre.

Seniors host two annual special event dinners, one at Christmas, and the other to celebrate Chinese New Year.
